I first started to really get into gardening when my son was a toddler and became captivated by a blue poppy (Meconopsis betonicifolia ) that featured on Gardener's World. I vowed I would grow one, and so began a long journey. I planted and sowed over the years. I nutured and waited; then waited some more. The other week whilst sitting in the garden I noticed a plant in a large pot holding an acer...could it really be what I thought. On closer inspection, I was sure, a plant had survived the winter, and what was more there appeared to be the hint of a bud.
Every day I have been out to check progress, This morning this is what greeted me. It is not quite open, but I'm taking pictures at every stage, just in case! There are another 6 buds to open. I can't wait to show my son...when he visits with his wife! Yes it's taken me 27 years to get this far.
My secret, forget you have planted one, empty the teapot & teabags on the pot, and keep your fingers crossed.
